Ira's Story

Architect Ira Shapiro creates unique, innovative, and context-appropriate design solutions for each client’s unique project needs. He has successfully designed residential, commercial, historic restoration, corporate/business/medical interiors, adaptive reuse, and industrial projects in New York City, Westchester County, NY, and Fairfield and Litchfield Counties, CT. The firm has offices in New York City and West Cornwall, CT.

Mr. Shapiro has provided leadership in energy-efficient buildings, sustainable design, and green community practices. He is a founding member of Columbia Building Green, a group of building professionals and concerned citizens in and around Columbia County, NY, that advocates for and provides educational seminars to the public concerning green building practices. 

Mr. Shapiro also provides: expert testimony in owner-architect and owner-contractor disputes and owner-tenant disputes related to BOMA-calculated rentable and usable areas; ADA compliance services and defense of ADA-related lawsuits; forensic investigation of distressed or failed buildings; and owner representative services.

Prior to establishing his practice, Mr. Shapiro was employed by IBM Corporation in its Real Estate and Construction Division where he was, by turns, project manager, territory manager, and regional director of design. 

Education: Bachelor of Architecture, The City University of New York
