The project’s design challenges were two-fold. The first was to fit the programmed functions into very tight usable space. This was accomplished by providing a single circulation corridor and having all functions accessible from it. The second was to both blend in with the retail environment of a shopping park, with its openness to the mall circulation, and to maintain a quiet, business environment away from the madding crowds.
The solution was to provide both openness and the illusion of openness, which was accomplished through the use of a modest, clear glass opening that invited the public and mirrored signage – Shapiro Research Services, Your Opinion Counts, and SRS SRS SRS – to literally reflect the busy-ness of the mall. The main sign, a mix of illuminated and non-illuminated components, reinforced the idea of both blending in and standing apart.
